No idea what this is. It is made of brass and was deep about 6 inches. I would say it was in the 1800s level of the ground I was in. We found large cents at that depth in this yard.

Hey Nalc can you get a nice lighted picture of the end to see if it has screw threads or an unusual shaped end . the pictures you posted are too dark to tell .thanks.

Because of the decorative glass I'm leaning toward a music box winder.
Land of Two Seasons - Snow and Fire Danger.
Almost all the clock winder pics have the mickey mouse ears to them. The music box winders have many different designs. I would second that on a music box winder. I think it's a mirror vs glass.
