    Is this a rare button? I do not see it much on the internet. How do you clean it up? Or just leave it alone? Any value in $$. I would not sell it just curious.

    Nice button. I would guess it was his button. Seeing as CW only lasted roughly 4 years the house probably never changed hands. Even if the uniform was given as a memento to the next of kin, it would have still been originally his. Not sure an higher ranking officer would come to the houses to find the enlisted men.

    He was on the Ohio River. It is possible that Union troops might have stopped and camped since he was a Union Doctor. He was discharged Dec 1861 Maybe he treated soldiers at his home since he was a MD. Actually the land has been in the same family since 1820s.
