A 2 cent coin, a Flying Eagle cent and my best looking Barber Dime !

    Hello all,

Last Saturday, I went MDing to a park with my detecting buddy don in ny. It was an awesome day out ! Beautiful weather, we had had some rain a few days before and therefore the ground conditions were about perfect.

We had a slow start but things went better when don in ny told me we should try a specific area of the park. Actually, on other occasions, I had already covered a bit of that area but pretty fast and always had clad only. I was a little hesitant. Was I wrong !

My first Flying Eagle Cent !! (1858) That one was a little funny. I actually thought I had an IH when I found it. It was all crusty. I started cleaning it when I came home. Anyway I would hold it, I would not see the Indian Head... And then... I saw the Eagle ! Yes, it is worn... But I'm ecstatic !

Just like Jim (and many others), the flying eagle is still on my list. That is one heck of a hunt! That eagle button looks 20th century to me, but Dan and the others could help you out. Awesome Day! Does your mind adjust from finding BCE coins?

Yes, it adjusts perfectly ! It's exactly the kind of hunt I needed on my way back from France ! But as I was telling Don, everything is about the context. If I were to find (and I did) a Louis XVI coin in France, I would be really glad. If I were to find it here (and I did not... yet), I would be ecstatic !!! It just wouldn't mean the same. (The day I found my 1696 William III silver shilling and my first CT copper, I just couldn't believe it !!!) Plus, I really learned to LOVE American Coinage !

Great set of finds. You must have been scratching your head after pulling those coins from an area you went near or over before. Love the Barber, in great shape!

Actually, there are a lot of shallow clad and trash and some iffy and deep signals. That's the ones we're looking for. They're scarce... but worth it !
