Bucket lister silver, jewelry, and a whatisit.

    Hi all,
Got back out to the old church this morning for about a half hour and made a few nice finds. My first was a piece of formed decorative copper. No idea what it's from, but definitely was ornate in it's day.

Shortly after this I came across a jumpy 12-14 signal at about 7 inches. At first I was thinking more can slaw, but the CTX was showing 2 targets on the screen, and decided to dig. The first thing to come out was one of those ball chains like off a set of keys, but nothing was hooked to it. Upon rechecking the hole, I found another target-my first war nickle, a 1945D !

A couple minutes later I came across what I thought was a wheatie signal and went to dig it up. First thing I saw was a rounded piece in a pale gold color. First thought was that it was another of those odd oversize gold pull tabs. But once I move more dirt I was pleased to see that it was instead a 1950's earring. Double checking the hole, I also found the clamp that had broken off, so now have the complete earring. It pays to ALWAYS double check your hole!

And lastly, I have the what is it piece. I got a low tone that put me at about a 12-21 at 8". I figured at that depth it might be something good. Well, I had to actually dig down about 12" due to being bigger than a coin and pulled out this copper or bronze piece that looks like a buckle. Looks MUCH older that the 1950's stuff I was finding at 4-7 inches. So if anyone has any idea what it is, love to hear back!

Good finds. That's a horse harness buckle. Usually pre-1930s I think (when cars replaced horses for transportation).

Thanks! I'm pretty sure it's a harness buckle. Going through my finds pile I found I have another one nearly identical I had found at the farm almost 2 months ago. Both were found about 1 1/2 mile apart.

EDIT: I found a couple listings for the same style buckles. Patent dates on some of those were 1870 and 1890.

Nice score on the war nickel. I've only picked up one of those per year.
I had no idea those harness buckles were late 1800s.

Unfortunately it's not gold. It looks like gilt on pewter, it's worn through in a couple spots on the edges. Also the couple spots of green on the back sort of gives it away.

Thanks CT, I was pretty amazed how well it worked-well beyond my expectations! I don't know what it was on the coin, but it was sort of gooey and wouldn't wipe off.
