    older style eagle button

I found this today detecting in the field. It has the eagle design that you`d see on a seated coin. The back is gone but the shank is intact. I rubbed a little olive oil on it to help bring out some detail. Any ideas of it`s age?

Nice button Robbie. I could be wrong, but I think it's 1820's-1830's vintage.

I never know about these things, I've never seen an iron back rusted away but the shank still intact. If 10x is correct maybe it's a one piece and it's all there? Nice find!

Could you post a picture of the front with the oil wiped off. The shine makes it hard for my old eyes to pick up the details.
My wife does all the driving, I just hold the steering wheel!

it looks like a flattened two piece to me and the eagle and shield is a bit distorted because of its condition .I'll go out on a limb and say it looks as though it may have been "indian wars" era type .
