A Rare mid-Winter Hunt - First LC of the Year

Hello fellow detectorists. I had the opportunity to do some rare mid-winter hunting up here in northern Vermont this past weekend. No snow on the ground and much of the woods understory remained unfrozen, something really hard to wrap your mind around up here seeing we average 100" of snow annually and we're typically locked down from December through March. Anyhow, got in a 3-hour hunt this past weekend and found a few keepers including my first LC of the year. It's a relatively uncommon date 1891 Q. Vicky Canadian LC so was quite pleased with that one. Also nabbed a toasted IH, a Model-T (or A) radiator cap and the front of an A.C. Williams child's iron penny bank from the late 1800s or early 1900s. So nothing overwhelmingly special but was just happy to get out to break the monotony of the typically long break up here. Thanks for looking and best regards.

Hey John congrats on still being able to detect nice finds for such a short hunt and the Canadian large cent looks to be in nice shape (i love them bronze coins ) and the bank is very cool !! I bet a little sand blasting and some paint would make it look new again

Thanks Dan. Yeah, I'm definitely gonna put some effort into making the bank look good again.

Thanks Drew. Still learning this whole video thing. A bit time consuming but I find it fun. Yeah, very pleased on how the LC fared after being in the ground 100+ years.

Nice hunt John! I would love to find a Canadian LC someday. I have to say that it just isn't right that you can be out detecting in northern VT when I am snowed in here in southern MA . That is a cool little bank too. Good job on the video.

Oldest coin: 1699 William III halfpenny

Thanks Jeff. Yeah, I was quite happy with the condition of the LC and with the bank as well. I'll probably head back there this spring and do a little scraping near the area I found the bank to see if I can find the other half.

Thanks for the note. Just happy to have gotten a chance to get out in mid-winter. Breaks up the long dead season a little bit.

Nice LC! I've yet to find one. I'm over here in NH and I know what you mean about the ground being frozen. Went out the other day to check the ground and my Lesche wouldn't even start to penetrate it. Never even thought about hitting the woods. Thank you, sir, for a most excellent idea!
