    Need help identifying this coin

    Hi Everyone,

I received a message through the American Detectorist main web page asking if anyone can help to identify this coin. He said he and his wife found it in North Carolina in April (not sure if it was in the water or soil). He said it was crusted with salt and he soaked it in vinegar for 15 minutes for this final result (attached).

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks!

Angie it looks like a cast copy of a Spanish cob , these are more than common on some of the beaches of the Carolina's as there are many souvenir shops .

Hi Angie! I'm pretty sure I have seen this at least once or twice before. If I remember correctly somewhere in all those squiggly letters is the word COPY.

Thanks guys! I wondered about that, but I have no experience with North Carolina detecting and I wanted to be sure.
