    More Coppers Saved!

Saturday was a cool and brisk morning and very windy but with the promise of full sun later in the day so we decided to go to the fields. Doug and Malachi joined us for our adventure. Our first stop was at old site that is for some reason contaminated with much modern trash. We have occasionally been able to pull a few nice items from here but today…not so much. I did get an interesting shirt stud and a few other bits so we decided to move on. Our next stop was a field that Diane and I had dug a couple of Large Cents the last time here a week ago. Signals were a bit slow until Doug called me over to check a banging 12-46 so we did a live dig recording and it turned out to be a very nice 1853 Braided Hair Large Cent! After a bit we moved on to another field that we hunted last year and had gotten a couple of Large Cents and Diane dug a Seated Dime. We were hoping for the same types of finds. Signals were a bit scarce here too. Malachi dug his first ever flat button and he was pleased, Diane and Doug also got a couple of buttons and I made the best finds though here. I got a reasonable signal and was pleased to see a Matron Head Large Cent emerge. After cleaning it at home I saw it was really toasted with no date and holed…but a Large Cent is a Large Cent! A bit later I got a nice little thimble. As we were leaving I noticed a Blimp floating over the adjoining field...gosh didn't know we were so famous that they sent a Blimp out to cover our hunt!
