Major Bucket List Item Found Today!

    Hey Diggers,
Today I met up with Digger Don and Hiluxyota (Tom) for some detecting in my favorite town. Found this in the front yard of an old house (actually the oldest house on that street). I've been waiting 8 years to find a Civil War button and I am very pleased it is an artillery button! I am a bit perplexed though as to why there is no back mark. Any thoughts or theories? Thanks for looking and HH, Dave.

Dave, congrats on getting a very nice CW button. Sorry to report that I have no theories or thoughts on the missing back mark, sure someone will chime in on that.

    Thats a fantastic find Dave.
As far as the back mark, you may not know where it was made, but you know where it was dropped and where it was found.

And maybe even when. On July 5, 1861, U.S. Grant ( then, still a colonel ) while marching the 21st Illinois volunteer infantry from Springfield to Naples, camped his troops 2 blocks from where you dug that button. at the time there was nothing but field between his camp and this farm house.
Who knows, maybe U.S. Grant dropped it !! LOL
