    My Nephew found this item. Never seen anything like it. It looks 1850s CW era. Any Ideas?Name:  objectcw.jpg

    Interesting piece. My first thought was from an old stove but I see the federalist eagles face in 4 different directions. Makes me think it was intended to be flat on the floor. Maybe an old drain grate or ventilation grate but it's hard to judge the size of it from your picture. You might be right about the age. It certainly looks to be of that era. HH, Dave.

    How big is it? It appears to be some kind of sash buckle, but I've never seen one with four slots. It's very cool, whatever it is!

    That's a beautiful piece. My guess is a Patriotic sash buckle.

    Somebody is trying to buy it off him who is in to history. I do not think he should sell it before he know what is is. Might be valuable and dont know it. Or it is not valuable.

    It looks like the openings get a little shorter as they go down. Makes a sash possible but a bit less likely.
