Thread: Photobucket

    Photobucket

As some of you may have heard, Photobucket recently changed from a free image hosting site to one that you have to pay for. In order to share your Photobucket images on another website you now have to pay the ridiculous sum of $400 per year. Obviously not many people are willing to shell out that amount. (Including myself.)

The sad result of this is, the photos are no longer visible in older posts on this forum that are hosted by Photobucket. This problem was circumvented when we switched to the new platform and users were able to insert photos directly into their posts without uploading them to a third party image hosting site, but many of the older threads have now lost their photos.

Witness this thread of mine from October 20, 2013:

    http://www.americandetectorist.com/f...ns-and-Barbers

The photos no longer show up, and it's the same with any thread that contains photos hosted by Photobucket. It's pretty slimy of them to hold the images hostage like that after being a free site for so many years.

Just pointing this out, in case anyone else had noticed and wondered what was going on. Unfortunately, I don't think there's any solution.
    Lifetime totals:
10 Large Cents, 415 Indian Heads, 2 Two Cent Pieces, 1 Capped Bust Half Dime, 1 Seated Half Dime, 10 Shield Nickels, 68 V Nickels, 124 Buffalo Nickels, 31 War Nickels, 16 Seated Dimes, 131 Barber Dimes, 405 Mercury Dimes, 249 Rosies, 4 Seated Quarters, 18 Barber Quarters, 20 Standing Liberty Quarters, 89 Silver Washingtons, 1 Seated Half, 3 Barber Halves, 16 Walking Liberty Halves

Yeah I lost a lot too. Photobucket really sucked over the last couple years. I switched to Imgur which is a lot better. But with any photo sharing site, you still run the same risk of losing all your posted pics in one fell swoop.
Oldest find: 5,000 year old copper spearhead
Oldest coin: 1699 William III halfpenny
Purdiest coin: 1832 Capped Bust quarter
Coolest find: USA button with blue threads still on shank
