    What the heck? Big brass

Found this at the virgin park site about a foot down. Any ideas?

    You got me Chris....? Hmmm.
Looks like its a cover or a cap to cover a hole in something. But with that one short rib and no screw holes.... no idea.

Guess I should mention it's about 3/8" thick not counting the hump. So it's a hefty piece of brass. The crosshayching on back was there when I dug it, so not my doing.

Is there a hole in the end, by the rib or hump?

I'm always so helpful in this section of the forum
