The Boys from Illinois know the Joys of Ohio!

This past weekend Daddy Digger planned a detecting trip to Ohio and invited us fellow Illinoisans to tag along. I met up with him, Digger Don and Digger Al early on Saturday morning and we detected a park around the courthouse square, a few houses in town and a few farm houses in the country. The weather was perfect and all of us had some good finds.

Here are my coin finds for the weekend:

It sure was a great time meeting up with you again Tony. It is always a thrill to see how you work a section of ground and pull out coins that others have missed (myself included). That token you found is without a doubt the best token I have seen on this forum. So much history behind it! I'm looking forward to our next get together. Best wishes and HH, Dave.

Hey Diggers, we decided to put all our finds on the same post so here's mine. I had a great weekend and found some really nice keepers. Like Tony said above we hit some old courthouses, parks, houses and farmhouses. It's always fun to see the other guys make great finds and share in their excitement.

The first day I found a gold pin in an 1840s park. It was 8 inches deep and rang up 12-10, 11-10. It is a Knights of Pythias pin. I knew it was gold as soon as I wiped the dirt off and could see it gleaming in the sunlight! It doesn't have any markings so I am guessing mid- to late-1800's for the age.

I also found two parts of a huge crotal bell. They were about 30 feet apart. I looked for the missing top part but was not successful in finding it.

Here's the pics of my better finds:
