    Knurled brass piece?

I found this thing at a new site today. It's 1.5"s long and made of brass. The tip looks like it has a different metal in it and part sticking out of the base is plastic. It is heavy for its size. The base is not hollow. I tried digging it out with a dental pick. The indention is only about 1/16th of an inch.
