Thread: My local newspaper 1942

    My local newspaper 1942

This appeared in our town's paper on this date in 1942.

If you're hoarding indian-head pennies the mint would like you to put them back into circulation. It's a misconception that indian-heads are worth more than 1 cent.

I thought what an odd thing to print in 1942! Then I remembered this was when WW2 rationing really started and production of commercial goods were greatly restricted. The government was actually asking people to put old coinage back into circulation!

Oh, that's a really good point Al. I know copper was one of the things greatly rationed so I wonder if they wanted those IHCs back in circulation so they could collect them to be melted for the war effort.
