Found an AMAZING relic today--Right off the dream bucket list!

    Hey diggers,
I say "dream bucket list" because some things you don't think you'll ever find so you don't even entertain the thought. Today I was detecting a new stretch of woods right next to a small village founded in 1260 (or so). I was right at the edge of the tree line and had such a beautiful view of the meadows and village down below. I got a screaming signal only 2 inches deep. I figured it was either a .50 cal shell from WW2 or maybe a smashed can. Imagine how surprised I was to pop out a spur! But not just any spur. This is a Medieval bronze spur from about the 12th century!! It's 900 years old! The rowel is missing but who cares. It was probably iron and rusted away centuries ago. Anyway, I am still on cloud nine over this relic. It's all cleaned up and waxed. Here is some pics. Thanks for looking and happy hunting, Dave.

Thanks Al, It was at the edge of the woods where the bank is slowly eroding away. Another couple years and this bad boy probably would be a surface find! LOL. We plan on going back next week. I'm hoping the rowel was also bronze and is nearby. It would be just amazing to find that too!

Drew, not only did I volunteer, I actually took a pay cut to come here! Thankfully they are holding my job for me back in Illinois so when this tour is up I can go back there.

Wow Dave! What a great relic, and so well preserved. You'd think it would get bent up over the years.

You know Del I had not thought of that. I think you're right. This was not something worn by a "commoner" but someone with money/status. It kind of puts a whole new spin on the relic. Thanks, I appreciate your thoughts.
