    Search engines

Yesterday I got moved to a new station, so I had to re-find the web address. This website doesn't come up in the search engines! I even tried searching for american detectorist, and came up empty. Is there anything we can do to help spread the word about the site. Word of mouth is good, but much slower.

Actually, Google, Bing and Ask do have the site on the first page when searching for American Detectorist.

I'm trying to work on other key words that would get us there as well.

Google search for metal detecting forum doesn't bring it up.

Maybe adding those words can help.

Sorry about posting in the wrong section.

    It's quite alright Jason.

Yeah, it won't yet come up with those specific words choices, though I have included them in the meta tags. What I found out is that these days meta tags are ignored by the major search engines, except perhaps for Yahoo. I'm trying a few other things though, so hopefully thing will change.

    metal detecting in America
    American metal detecting
    treasure hunter
    treasure hunting
    gold
    silver
    gold coins
    silver coins
    relics
    American collectible coins
    American relics
    etc, etc...

There are a ton of ways people might search for a site regarding metal detecting in America.
What helps best is as many possibilities as you can think of being added to the search engine.
As the site ages it will show up closer to the top of the list.
Time is on your side on this one. But the more key words/phrases, the better.

    Re: Search engines

Hey, I was just playing with the google search engine. I found that you can promote a website search result. If you do a search for american detectorist, you will find a link to here and you can promote it. Look for the little up arrow symbol to the bottom right of the link.

Now if we can get other parameters to pull the website, we can promote it higher up the list of results.

EDIT!!! I just found at the bottom of the google search page you can add a website to be included in a particular search phrase. Maybe we can force the website into the search engines.

I think if you were to change from American Detectorist - Index :-\ to America Detectoris - Forum. That might help.

    Re: Search engines

Yeah, but the trick is to get the website to come up without actually putting in exactly what the name is. It should come up under broader, generic search terms.

Thanks Jason! I will have to look into that. I wasn't really aware that was available.

    Re: Search engines

I noticed that it doesn't always show up. It must be a browser version issue. The option shows up on THIS computer, but when I log in on the next computer it doesn't have that option. So it might not work for everyone.
