    Three Silvers Today: 1676, 1679, & 1695

    Hi Friends,
I spent 8 1/2 hours detecting non-stop today at the 1600's siege site. I found some amazing relics which I will save for another post. I did also find 3 silver coins, all 1600's! The King Leopold (known as Hog Jowl) is my favorite and in a very high grade. I'm considering getting it graded and slabbed. Here's some pics. Thanks for looking and commenting. Happy hunting, Dave.

That's simply amazing, Dave. . So pretty! Do they have a different silver content then we are used to seeing? They have a duller look to them than...say, a Barber coin.

Yes Drew, they are about 22 - 25% silver. Technically there are "billon" (pronounced BEE-YAWN). Because they are mostly copper they develop a thick coating of verdigris which is very hard to remove. I had to boil them 3 times in a mix of olive oil and lemon juice. Even then I couldn't get it all off.

Wow, those are amazing coins! The 1679 looks like it was almost new when dropped. That could easily be a museum piece, congrats!
