    Wax Seal Matrix

    Hey Diggers,
Yesterday I got a bucket list item at the 1600's siege site. My very first wax seal matrix. It's actually made of tombac and quite heavy. The seal itself appears to be romantic in nature so maybe this one was used by a French soldier writing letters to his wife or sweetheart. I interpret the crown as representing France and of course the flying heart is sending his love. I flipped the image so if anyone can translate the words that would be amazing! Thanks for looking and HH, Dave.

Wow, so muck detail. I've got to wonder why we in the modern world don't use the tombac material anymore??

I agree with Al...and never thought about it before. Tombac holds up to our CT soil...which ruins everything.
That's such an amazing find, Dave...but I bet you didn't bat an eye considering the rest of your finds this week
