It was a dandy kinda day

    Hi folks,

Well, the snow has FINALLY melted in the Champlain Valley and the ground has thawed enough that I bit the bullet yesterday by enduring 40 mph wind gusts for my first hunt of the year. It's been too long (last hunt on Dec 1, 2018). Joined up with a new detecting friend I recently met and in talking with him discovered we share several old permissions in a town south of me about 45 minutes. We hit 3 new sites, then returned to my honey field from last year to wrap the day up. All and all about 6 hours of hunting. The second site proved most productive and coughed up several nice silver-washed dandy buttons and my first copper of the year - a no-date KG II Hibernia half penny. Of course, the old honey hole gave me 5 more buttons (that place never seems to completely dry up), one which had a nice little Star of David pattern on it. Lots of "dots on the map" to check out over the coming 6 weeks before the crops get planted. Definitely looking forward to another productive year! Thanks for taking a look.

    John

Looks like you're starting this year where you left off last year. Nice finds.

Still over a foot of snow over here in the Northeast Kingdom. It's killing me!

Thanks guys! You know, upon closer examination I noticed the letters "UL" at 3 o'clock to the right of KG's head. Those letters aren't in the standard KG 2 hibernias (should say REX II) and in digging a little deeper it seems likely it's a mid-1700s KG 2 Irish Evasion counterfeit copper. I don't care either way - just glad I could correct the ID.

An evasion copper would be better than just a Hibernia in my opinion , great hunt as usual John . Glad the tundra has finally started to melt for you .

One of these days I may have to head up there to the Champlain area to site see and do some detecting.

Nice hunt John. Great way to thaw out those detecting muscles. I'm with Dan, an evasion copper is extra cool. I like that button too.

Thanks Drew. OMG, the silver holed thingy is a 1971 dog tag and my heart breaker of the day. Dug it at 8 inches in my honey field and rang up a smooth 88-89 on the AT-Pro. Was sure of some more old silver or an LC.
