What’s this thing?

I got this in the park not far from where I found the Ct copper. It’s heavy brass and is 2” x 1 1/2” in size.

Interesting find. A buckle without a thorn (or do you sah,,Spike,,?) And with an eyelet is usually from a saber or sword- hanger or belt. It looks handmade. Maybe it is datei before the civil war.
