Thread: MA Militia button

    MA Militia button

Last weekend and today I managed to get out for a couple of short hour and a half hunts. Last weekend the rain got me, this week had to get stuff ready for a family cookout. I dug typical mid 1800's relics. To the right of the forks are todays finds.

Was happy to pull this 1860's Massachusetts Volunteer Militia two-piece button on this morning's hunt.

Pretty toasty but I was able to clean it up a bit.

Always happy to find some CW relics.

    Jeff

Nice button. They are one of my favorite items to find. Were you able to get a backmark?

I don't recall ever seeing a MA button posted, Jeff. That's another thing to add to the bucket list. Nice curve on that ox shoe too...any nails attached?

I think I have seen a few posted here by HMN in the past Drew. The ox shoe is a beauty I agree. The Ox Shoe Encyclopedia 8th Edition, lists it as a OSD 212B2 variant. It's a very rare transitional style manufactured in Bovinia, NY in 1843.
