Ohio Door Knocking with Tony & Noah

Tim (Noah) and I drove to Ohio this weekend to meet up with Tony Two-Cent.
The weather forecast called for rain all night and then clearing up by 7:00 AM. It did in fact rain all night and it was still raining when I got up at 5:00. I'm only telling you this because when we started digging, the soil was absolutely DRY. I for the life of me can't explain it!

It was rough finding permissions, a lot of small yards and no answers, but we all managed a few finds. I dug 2 Indians, 2 mercs, 1 rosie, a token, 1 old flat button, 18 wheat cents and my find of the trip, an 1847 Large Cent.

The dry conditions were a shock after driving through pouring rain the whole way there. I'm glad you got that large cent. Oldest coin of the weekend! That flat button is old too. It might be what they call a coin button. I'll let the experts weigh in on that.

It was great detecting with you, Don! Congrats on your finds!

I was in Ohio this weekend too. I was at my farm in Mt Vernon setting up tree stands for hunting. Yes it rained a small amount on Friday night but our farm has had almost no rain for the past 5-6 weeks. The good news is that the fields are getting harvested earlier than normal since the crops are drying up but the bad news is that yards are bone dry and it is harder to get permissions.

With all that said you did well! Congrats on the silvers and espcecially the LC! I did a little detecting myself at an old honeyhole but no silver.
Detectors I use: Minelab Equinox 900 & Manticore
    Favorite finds I have made:
    1,000+ silver coins
92pcs of 1700's Trade Era Silver
    Copper Culture Indian Artifacts
125+ War of 1812 Era buttons and relics
    My wife
(probably should have started with that one)

Nice copper! I've noticed that "dry dirt" mystery as well. If it has been dry for a while, I think it takes a LOT of rain before it will be noticeable in your plugs.

I'd post my finds for the trip but I don't want to embarrass myself. Gave all the good sides of the yards to Don and Tony!
