"I've got a screamer over here."

"I've got a screamer over here." I have heard Dan say that so many times over the past few years (always with a grin). That statement is almost always followed by a nice copper or a colonial shoe buckle. This past Sunday, I finally got to say those words to Dan!We went out with one of our friends, Jimmy, and hit some cellar holes. The ground at the first one was frozen solid but I stayed in a spot that had produced some buttons before and found several including this nice machine etched tombac. Size: 130.8 KBWe spent a few hours at that site and then moved onto the next hole but before we left Dan presented me with a Beaver Stick for my wife. She had been wanting one for awhile and I knew there should be one laying around at this site.Name: 83830046_10215957337149891_6406657412404609024_n.jpg

Size: 111.0 KB The next site was very large and I started wandering around in a spot behind the hole that didn't look very promising but I was thinking that there might be a cabin close by. Dan was in the same area when I got the first "screamer." It turned out to be a 1798 Draped Bust and while the condition is not great it's still only my second coin minted in the US Mint from the 1700's. Size: 65.0 KB After the Draped Bust I got a signal not far away that I knew was big iron. It sounded like an axe. I told Danny and he said, "Dig it." I started not to but I'm glad I did for reasons you will read in a minute. I dug it and it was an axe at about 12 inches down under a rock. After the axe, I walked a few feet back towards the hole. If I hadn't dug the axe I may have kept going in the other direction. I got another "screamer." I called out to Danny and told him this one sounded shallow. I'm not certain but I think he actually said it could be a shoe buckle. It was! My first complete man sized shoe buckle and it has the Nail Head and Rope Border pattern. After that, I don't think my feet touched the ground the rest of the day.Name: 83988090_10215968208501668_2850871730556108800_o.jpg

Donnie B, if you are going to find a COMPLETE shoe buckle, that's the way to do it. That one is a beauty. The amazing part is you beat Dan to it. I love those DBs from the 1700's.
Oldest find: 5,000 year old copper spearhead
Oldest coin: 1699 William III halfpenny
Purdiest coin: 1832 Capped Bust quarter
Coolest find: USA button with blue threads still on shank

Dan is a human magnet for shoe buckles. I just got lucky but I said afterwards that if he had not told me to dig that axe then I might not have found the shoe buckle. I would have probably kept on walking in the direction I was heading instead of turning towards the shoe buckle which came next.

It's beautiful. I'd find a way to repurpose it.

You found a shoe buckle the very first time we went there at the site right down the road. So, that's two shoe buckles plus the knee buckle that Davey found not to mention several coppers now. I agree. We need to expand the search area as there is lots of swinging room and fields we haven't even touched yet. There could be an awesome hot spot in one of those fields.
