1863 Milwaukee Plank Road Brewery Token

I found this last fall within a half mile of what was once the Plank Road Brewery in Milwaukee. This is the third example of this token that I have dug while MDing.

WOW...I'd be happy with one. I have always loved tokens unfortunately I live in an area where not that many tokens were used.

What a wonderful token, produced in the midst of the civil war. I think the original brewery building is still there?

    Tony,

I do not think that is the original facility in which the Rebel got the tokens. The first Plank Road Brewery only had 1 original year of operation. Then they had 2 more owners under the same name until 1888ish. One of them started in 1855, Frederick Miller. When he died, they changed the name to his, hence Miller Brewing as we remember it.

Thanks for the clarification! I wasn't sure.

Tony, the image you found is a reproduction on the top of the State St hill above the original site in "Miller Valley". Here is an ca 1870 image of the original.
