Golf Course - - yes in the Relics section??

Well no coins today but some relics appeared in my holes

I got a flat button with the back mark of Chauncey Brooks Baltimore...no idea of time frame.

Got a couple more horse tack buckles which put me over 50 of them from this site.

    A horse shoe....A hem weight

The two largest items I have no idea of - - if you know please chime in

That's my hunt, thanks for reading and stay safe everyone

Hey Al, That horse shoe is in the style of mule shoes but it does look wider...maybe a very large mule??
I've never heard of a Baltimore flat button.

Don't those D buckles sound like coins??

    What's a hem weigh? (that's for Dave )
    Congrats Bud!!

Not sure on the mystery items Al, but good to see the old course is still producing!

What holes are the most productive Al? Front 9 or the back 9?

Front 9. Don't know i f your a golfer or not but the front 9 borders the Ranch golf club which used to be a old farm. Before I was detecting I remember them digging up the farm to make the Ranch and now I think of all the great coins lost. I watched dump truck after truck hauling the topsoil away.....

I can only imagine Al what went out in those trucks! 30+ coppers from that site. You could have found another 6 MA coppers and given me the one in your avatar.

I think Chauncey Brooks was born in 1794 and died in 1880. He was a merchant in Baltimore. The style of the backmark on your button most likely puts it in 1820-late 1830s.Prior to the 1820s most all buttons made in the US had a raised backmark. Starting around 1820 they went to an incised one. Two piece buttons came out in the mid to late 1830s. Here's a link to Mr. Brown

Thanks for this information. Did individuals have buttons made for them specifically?
