    Got out with Moose yesterday

I was able to get out with Moose for a few hours yesterday. Our hunt was interrupted by a hail storm but after it blew over we were able to continue.

All of these finds were in private yards in a river town so the soil is very sandy and the oldest coins and relics quickly sink below the detector's range, but we found a few keepers anyway. My favorites were the large skeleton key and the old silver ring.

Both of the silver coins were from the same yard.

The relics include the large skeleton key, an old lighter case, two Illinois tax tokens and a huge 50 caliber slug. One wonders how that came to be in someone's yard.

I love this old silver ring. The designs on it are very odd. It looks like two serpents with apples in their mouths? Does anyone know the significance of these symbols?

Sweet ring, Tony! I hope you get some answers on it. I'm really interested in those tax tokens. Find a lot of them? We must not have had them in my area. I think I recall you, or one of the IL boys posting them before. Are they early aluminum?
Congrats on the quarter too...must have sounded nice. Good job, Tony!

The Illinois Retailers Occupation Tokens are a relatively common find. They used them from 1935-1947. All of them are aluminum that I've seen.

Some nice rewards for braving the hail. Up here in MA we never had the tax token thing. The ring is very interesting and I'm sure someone on here can explain it. Congrats on the silver coins.

Tony, that is the weirdest ring I have ever seen! The .50 round is probably a WW2 souvenir. I find them all the time over here but they aren't souvenirs! I do miss the tax tokens. I have found 2 of the round variety in Illinois but have never seen them identified like the square ones. Happy digging my friend!

Looks like you did very well there Tony. Be good to get back up with you again sometime. That ring is very strange indeed. The serpent is the symbol of the devil at the beginning of creation. And eating the Apple of course doomed humanity. Strange to find it on a ring! You might have some Satan worshipers living around there ha ha!
