First silvers & better picture of yesterdays Indian

I posted a better picture of my Indian from yesterday. I was hoping to get an explanation of the bold 187 & weak 2 on the date. I am guessing something got on the die but would like other peoples opinion or confirmation this happened on other 1872 coins. Either way any help appreciated, Went back today and had a very good hunt. I found a silver spill with a well wore Barber Dime and Merc. as well as a Rosie. Trifecta for first silver was a nice bonus. Also got 9 wheats and a Buffalo. By mid week we should be pretty well snow free in my area. Wisconsin Digger

My guess is grease got into the 2 and blocked the die from fully stamping the date onto the planchet. I knew it wouldn't be long before we saw silver from you!

Congrats on the trifecta! The 1868 Indians have a weak "N" in ONE on the back. I have a few of them and each has a weak "n". I wonder if the 1872 Indian normally has a weak 2 or if yours is rare?

Awesome dime trifecta and wonderful 1872 Indian Head Cent! That is one of the dates I've yet to find.

I agree that it looks like a "filled die" error on the Indian, because otherwise it doesn't show much wear. Great find!
