    Sitting pretty.

I went out for thee hours this morning to a new spot. It was very cool and breezy for our part of the country but one good find warmed me up. I was hunting into the breeze when a small gust made me turn to the right. I went about 15 feet and got my only good signal for the day. I turned over a clod of dirt and silver fell out. I didn't have my glasses on and thought it was a modern coin. I was very happy to discover that it was a seated liberty dime and in the best shape of all the ones I have found. One small nick on the edge is the only blemish on it. It is an 1842 and that makes it 179 years old. My buddy told me God meant for me to find this one so he caused the wind to blow me in the right direction!

I think it is old. It may have been nicked by a plow over the years but the nicked area has the same patina as the rest of the coin. I know I didn't hit it with my shovel.

Great looking coin. It is funny how we wonder why we go in the directions we go metal detecting. I often find things and then wonder why I decided to go the direction I did. It would be nice to think there is someone looking out for us. great find. WD

    Congrats on the seated!

WD - I wonder that myself all the time, even when I have a plan as to where I want to go in an area.

Thanks for the replies Y'all. I wish there was a "like" button so I could thank each one of you. This is not my oldest dime but it is the nicest one.

Awesome looking seated! My oldest silver US coin was an 1842 seated dime, but looked no where as nice as yours.
    Great Job
