1 more first from the old CW chapel!

    Hello all,

I went back today in the snow for about an hour to see if I could find anything more among the iron. No coins today, but I did locate a pretty rare pre CW era Sellier & Bellot 16Ga pinfire cartridge head. This could date to the CW era, but what little info I can find it looks like there in use mostly from the late 1830s to around 1860ish when centerfire cartridges emerged. If anyone has any more info, I would love to learn more.

    Thanks and happy hunting!

Just wanted to make an addendum. Seems that this particular round was set to use either a round ball or single slug projectile during the Civil War. I could only find 1 complete example, pictured below. Being a .662 dia slug, I certainly wouldn't want to see the kind of damage that would do to a soldier.

Excellent find! I've dug a few old pinfire cartridge head stamps, but not one like that.
