Second V3i Hunt Brings Gold and Double Tap on Silver!

    Howdy Folks!
Well, today being Saturday, I went out for about 4 hours, but seem to be having a touch of intestinal flu or something. Made for a short day. But not before the new V3i proved itself in the field with another gold item and two silver finds.

First stop was a local tot lot that I haven't much troubled in awhile, so I headed over there and found a good clutch of clad. My second stop was at a school across town where I've found gold before. I searched the two main lots and found some kid type jewelry items and wasn't intending to hit the third lot because it is about the size of a postage stamp. But I did anyhow, just to make a clean sweep, and am glad I did. I found a nice 14k bracelet there, and it is totally shpadoinkle. It weighed in at 11.7 grams on the trusty scale at home! I also found a religious medal that is about the size of a nickel or slightly larger. Turned it over and found the word sterling on the reverse! Nice.

My third stop added to my clad count, and while I worked my way through the area where the swings are, I got a nice hit on the V3i that rang up like a dime. Turned out to be a crucifix and part of a rosary. Turned it over and found 925 stamped on the back.

Odd finds include a Mexican $1 Peso coin, a large Tazmanian Devil cartoon character, and the ubiquitous RTD token!

Clad count was okay too. My take was:
    25 Quarters = $5.00
    12 Nickels = $0.60
    8 Dimes = $0.80
    28 Pennies = $0.28
    Total = $6.68
    Coin Count = 73 Coins.

    Thanks for Looking,
    Blessings,
    M-Taliesin

It's just amazes me how easily you can find gold. I dig pull tab after pull tab after foil and just struggle to find any. :bangshead02: You have certainly mastered it. Congrats to you.
Question... how many nickels, pull tabs and pieces of foil do you dig on an average hunt? Do you dig every pull tab/nickel type signal... or do you pick and choose?
    Thanks for the tips.
    Great hunt Mel.

    Howdy Pardner!
To answer your first question... all of them.
I am usually accurate on nickels, and they hit right at 20 on my V3i.
They hit close to that on my MXT Pro, but I get deceived more often with
stuff like the eraser capsule from pencils. Pulltabs, not so much.

Since I am limited to tot lots during my recover from surgery, I still ain't
able to kneel for digging in grass, I stick to wood chip surfaced lots.
When I suspect a pulltab, I simply sweep my foot to expose the target.
That saves a ton of bending over to check it with a probe. Just a sweep
of the foot will usually expose a piece of foil or pulltab without much
    waste of time or energy.

There are folks who will ask about the VDI of a given target, and I have
trouble with that because I am not real reliant on the VDI reading. My
MXT Pro and my V3i both have tone i.d. and I listen for nuance of sound.
I key in much more strongly on what I hear in my headset than what I
see on the meter. Even on my MXT 300, which does not have tone I.D.,
there are subtle differences in how the sound is reported that clue me
in on a good target compared to an iffy or junk target.

I will investigate any and every signal that falls into the foil range, because
it can be gold. Sometimes foil or pulltabs can be deeper than what a sweep
with the foot will reveal, and in those instances, I will dig to visually identify
them, but that doesn't happen too often.

    Hope this helps.
    Blessings,
