Retired from the Fire Dept with a little over 20 years. After that a EMT for our county ambulance service for 3 years. After that and presently a Police Officer for the last 13 years. Except for one year that I went to Iraq with a private security company to train the Iraqi Police. Tooooooooooooooo much public service work!!!!!!!!

Re: What do you do for a living American Detectorists?

Well, I am a year late on this thread but I like it.

I've been in sales since I was 5. Started at my fathers flower store at age 5 (continued this seasonally until 22). Moved onto selling candy in 5th grade, firecrackers in 7th, Kirby vacuums in high school & college. I was also a bartender, bouncer, sold hot dogs and beer on the beach and at Harvard University (too bad I didn't go there). I too was a casual at the post office in 1990 for 4 months and went into the business of insurance for a private firm. They went bankrupt, so I went to Mutual of Omaha in 1993. Left there in 1994 and did insurance on my own. Left that to sell cars (honda, where I met my wife),then internet service, websites, telephone service, outdoor advertising and finally back into the insurance business in 2001. Been there since and will never ever leave. Run my own shop and answer to NO ONE! I could not imagine having a boss at this point in my life. The $ is good and typically, I can carve out plenty of time for guess what? Hockey, MDing and poker!

I like to work with small business owners on their group health and life insurance for estate plans , keyperson and buyout coverage. I also market medicare products, long term care, disability and annuities. Although I am licensed to sell investments, I use a specialist to handle that for me.
