    Mystery coin

when I first detected this, I thought it was just another nickel. when I got home and noticed the five on the back, I thought I may have found a shielded nickel but upon further checking I'm beginning to think it may just be a foreign coin. can someone provide a positive id on this, please? thank you.

Modified message to include comparison to penny and nickel. The item in question is slightly larger than a penny and slightly smaller than a nickel.

    Thanks.

That is a good one... maybe snap a pic next to a ruler though for size. I'm anxious to learn what it is! I've got to imagine it's old to be in the shape that it's in!

Yes, I think you nailed it. My son also called with the same result so there is very little doubt. Not the shielded nickel I had hoped for but interesting none the less. Thank you very much for taking the time to identify the coin and respond. It is always appreciated.
