July 4th and finally on the board!

    Hi all,
It's the morning after the big fireworks display. I did my best to get to the beach right after work this morning but had gotten delayed an hour. This caused me to hit the height of amature hour of wanna be treasure hunters wildly swinging their $20 vintage Fisher Price or other garage sale machines. I've never seen so many people detecting a beach before, and the old timer who hunts there almost daily told me several already had given up and left.
Needless to say the throngs of amatures unburied lots of trash and only added to the mess. Thankfully it seemed they only got the trash out and left most of the coins! I did find a small heap of coins, but only one good keeper that made it all worthwhile- a beauty of a 10K gold band! First gold of the year, and happy it made a few of the amatures jealous.

WTG Chris! I’ve never had much luck down there. It’s good to see some gold come off that beach. Any idea how the regular old timer does?

Thanks much! Sorry to say the old timer doesn't do great. Previous 2 years has been using an old Fisher with a bum coil. This year he showed up with a new Makro racer. Says he's still learning it, but he still rarely gets silver and has yet to get any gold. In the past I've followed him about 20 minutes behind and cleaned up after he got the trash out of the way. The ring I found today was right between his footsteps!

Unfortunately at this particular beach there's no way I could use the GPX. The sand is literally peppered with aluminum bits and tiny pieces of bullet jackets from a former gun club that shot over the lake.

What is that top picture Chris? A bearing?? You have enough sunglasses for any look you want to pull off.

Top picture is a plastic ring with tiny brass ball chain. I couldn't believe my machine actually picked it up! With all those sunglasses I was thinking I could open a used sunglass hut at the beach!

For sure. I bet with the Ray Bans, you could get $50.00 for those alone. Love the video on You Tube Chris. Great work with the camera and wireless microphone. Pretty cool!

Thanks a lot! Still need to dial in the mic and receiver levels, and working better quality video. Plus maybe try wearing my Gopro? Lots of work to do before I'm satisfied. But I'm very glad to hear you like the perspective from the Soloshot!
