    A large cent???

Hi everyone. Hope you are all well. Went out with some friends to a park that had some 1930s homes on it. Hit a small iron patch and dug a few deeper signals. Square nails. I love finding those and started a circular pattern. Thought I had a 6" modern clad quarter and this "large cent" popped up Name: 20220709_185837.jpg

Size: 92.9 KB Showed it to one of my buddies and we both thought it was a little small. Let it dry off and the first word I saw was token. Bummer. Kept going and saw the half penny next. 1852 Canadian half penny!!! The other coins are 1 wheatie and 1 IHP (still working on this one. either 1885 or 1895). For you OxShoe, found with CTX 11" coil. Two smaller coins were down about 9", but much better signals since we had rain than the last hunt I had.

Very cool 1852 Canadian Half Penny bank token!

I am envious of your ability to get out and detect. We are experiencing blistering heat here.

    Good job!

Thanks Tony. Hopefully it will cool down for you. We have been going at 6AM and can usually only last until 10 or so. Yesterday it was 9 AM for me with the sun/heat/no wind.

Thanks Lodge Cent - I didn't know this one was even on my bucket list. Hope you get one!! There are about 1.5 million minted if I remember correctly.

Great find - looks like a nice site - 3 recoveries and all old. I was out Sunday and managed only 1 wheat penny and some clad. We got some rain as well so I hope that helps a bit. Thx for posting. PS money is in the bank on the house so should have plenty of time for swinging the rest of the summer. WD

Glad you got some rain too. Got a little more the last few days. One can dig a plug again. I was to the point I wasn't going to hunt on grass anymore.

Thanks Bucknut! Rain should be coming your way soon. We are getting a bunch of it today. Hopefully it gets across MI for you.

Rain sure helps with deepies! What happened to the homes at the park? Nice snag on the token, Darryl. They're hard to come by!

Great find! I've only ever found a couple of those Canukian largest (half cent and cent), and those were nowhere one would have expected. Even though not American coins, they're always a welcome find.

    Thanks Chris.

Drew - They tore them down in the 1980s. I think there must have been an old log home or original house at the location before they put up the newer homes in the 1920s. We were going for Mercs/Walker era coins. Found a lot of deep square nails too.
