    Explorer SE question...

Hey folks, I'm sure I'll be posting more in this section than the finds section for a little while.

My Explorer arrived today, and although I spent the last week reading the manual and seeking info on the net, I have a quick question to get me started.

I took it for a quick test drive in my yard for about a half hour... sure was a treat, pinpointing didn't seem to be an issue. Obviously I put it on the factory coin mode and started swinging. Found a couple of wheats.

This is probably a very elementary question(I upgraded from an Ace 250), but is there any reference out there that will relate cursor placement and probable coin id? The high pitch sounds I received tonight all turned out to be wheat pennies. I didn't notice anything in the supplied manual.

I know I have a long way to go, but some frame of reference would be helpful to start with. Air testing is ok, but from my limited experience, coins in the ground react different than air testing.

Thank you very much in advance.

I haven't seen anything out there on cursor placement probabilities . I have seen lists on forums
on where different coins and items fall in the numbered digital categories ( but not lately). The general concensus among the more successful Explorer users is to just to go by the tones . You're not going to always be able to with 100% accuracy to tell the difference between a copper penny , silver dime , clad dime , copper washer , can slaw with tones either . There are too many variables, mineralization , wear of the coin ( I've had worn silver coins come in as zinc on several of my machines ) iron in the hole etc . If you're not digging any junk at all on your hunts and just digging up good stuff that would almost qualify you to start up your own religion .
A book I would heartily recomend would be Andy Sabisch's book on the Explorer/E-trac also
Angellionel has some threads here on when he was using the Explorer SE that are quite enlightening .
Good luck with your SE , I have a love/hate relationship with mine .
