About 5 to 1 .
About 5 to 1 .
I'm rather new at this hobby. Been at it for about 6 months now.
So far I have found about 35 Wheat Pennies and no silver coins.
I guess that would make my ratio about a Gazillion To Zip.![]()

308 wheaties [s]:[/s] 46 silver coins (Not counting war nickles)=6.69
So about a 7:1 ratio
Good thread! thumbsup01
I never would've tried to figure it out lol
Some days you get the corn, some days you get the cob
Oldest coin: 70 B.C. "Harlow Flyer" gold qtr. Stater
Oldest U.S. coin: 1814 Capped Bust Dime
My ratio? huh 0-0
Hoping that will soon change, first detector in five years is on it's way![]()
I've never kept track, but I'd guess mine is about 8:1 (wheats to silver).
Like others, I've always used wheats as an indication that I'm in the right area for silver. Early last year, I moved to the Vegas area and had an entire park system to learn. Finding a wheat tells me that there was activity there in the past, and it's worth spending a lot more time detecting.
I've traveled a long way, and many of the roads weren't paved.
I usually run about 7-1, if you count war nickels.
UPDATE:
I just did a count for the past couple of months and we have 117 wheats and 15 silvers, counting 2 war nickels. That's 7.8 - 1.
I don't know how some of you guys get less than 5 - 1.
