Another zoo hunt, campaign button and silver

    Hi everyone!
Another short hunt before work hitting the parking islands again. Targets are getting hard to find so hitting anything remotely repeatable below 4 inches. Lots of iron and fence wire, but I got a pretty weak 12-41 showing 7 inches. Well, at about 9 inches and through a maze of roots I popped out this somewhat round and thin piece of green. Luckily it cleaned up pretty easily with a couple wipes and could see writing on the better side and what looked like a set of busts on the other. Upon a good cleaning once I got to work revealed I had a bronze Robert M La Follette/Burton K Wheeler campaign button from 1924! Unfortunately I tagged the back a bit getting under the roots, and half the pin is missing, but still a great find!

Prior to finding the pin, I also found another bullet and $1.56 in clad. I also had a barely noticible squeaker that bounced around 12-45 at 7 inches. Flopped over the plug and there sitting on the grass is a pretty nice 1945 Merc. Looking at the impression on the dirt clod I sew it was mostly on edge, so I'm amazed I picked it up at all!

That medal is really a cool find. I am sure being made of bronze that probably cost some serious money to have been made back in the day. Was it a local election??. You are hitting on some good targets in that area...

Al, that was for the 1924 presidential election. Lafollette was from my state of Wisconsin and ran under the progressive party. Unfortunately the only state he won was Wisconsin. Here's the link to the wiki article:

A most excellent find. Better than a toasted colonial relic any day! Anything with some age and with writing on it elevates the item to the top of my list quickly!
