    Got my Oldest US Silver.....

Woke up this morning to a downpour.....about time. Rain was basically done by 8am so I decided to go and hit the field.

Got a couple of buttons, a nice flat and a dandy. Also got a cuff and a musket ball. Towards the end of the hunt I got a broken tombac.

The silver is a 1829 capped bust dime. Pretty sure that it is the extra large 10 C variety. Would appreciate it if some one could confirm that....

Darn sure that I nicked it also....

The other day I was talking to someone at work and was explaining(complaining) that my earliest US silver hadn't changed in about 6 years. So if that's all it takes, talking to someone then I need to do it more often.

Thanks for reading and HH everyone.

I agree with Al, it looks like the X-LARGE 10 C. to me.

DOD, I checked with PCGS Coinfacts and I really think that it is the extra large 10 C. Coinfacts also said that this is a very scarce variety.

Looking at my huge Red Book it's the 2 in 1829 that could make this a super rare and valuable dime. If it's the curl version you are looking at a $10k dime. The square 2 is the common version. The 10 C is either small medium or large. The large version is more valuable but not much more than the others.

Can you get a cleaner pic of that date? from what I see I am thinking that is the curl version!

Yeah that is the square version. Shoot! Hopefully that is still a rare variety that my red book does not list. STILL a sweet find no matter what variety it ends up being!

I just googled this dime and got a site that shows the differences between the 10 C varieties. There is a 4th extra large variety that my Red Book does not list. The key in my opinion is that dot after the C. Yours is small and below the end of the arrow...I think that you might indeed have that extra large variety! No idea what it is worth though. Hope you can get some one to confirm what you have. Maybe send it in to one of those grading companies? Keep us updated!
