UPDATED...My Best Relic Yet!!!

Hello Diggers,
I was up on musket ball hill in the rain this morning and found something very exciting! I'm going to have to have it looked at to get an idea of its age but I found a socketed bronze arrowhead! (bucket list item, just ask Don) It could be medieval, Roman, or even bronze age! My detecting buddies over here have already sent me messages saying how much they hate my guts! LOL. I will keep you posted on any new information I get. Thanks for looking and HH, Dave.

Hey Diggers,
I sent some pictures over to our local German expert/archaeologist/detectorist. He says definitely bronze and definitely BC. I just detected something over 2,000 years old! Here's some pics after I painstakingly cleaned it one little fleck of dirt at a time. HH, Dave.

On a "semi serious" note, how soon before the "archaeologists" take over your musket ball hill? Here in the States you know darn well a similar find would end with you giving up everything you discovered for the "experts." Personally I think the rules here are mid evil. BTW, have you come up with any new procedures to restore and preserve relics they haven't in your short immigration to Germany? You did a wonderful job picking that spear clean!! OH AND CONGRATS!! How's the hoard coming? Any gold yet?!!

I have learned a few techniques for cleaning since I arrived. For the most part, all coins and relics have a scale-like crud on them. After letting the item completely dry out you pick it with a bamboo skewer (they are much tougher than toothpicks). The trick for old silver coins is you must boil them for about a minute in a mixture of olive oil and lemon juice. Immediately rinse it off in cold water and rub with your fingers to remove the crud. It does not affect the patina in any way.

Never tried that on a silver coin. What ratio? Now I'm curious. How would Dave clean a 2 cent piece? I have one that is decent and another that is rather crusty.

This boiling method only works on silver coins not copper or bronze.

I got an update on my arrowhead. The place I found it is not a known Bronze Age site so it is considered a "stray." The time period is 1800 BC to 700 BC. I find it difficult to even type those numbers! My brain just can't quite grasp the whole thing.
