    Weekend on the Farms

I've been driving by this old farm house for the past 5 years. Wishing that someday, maybe just someday, I'd get a chance to detect it.

Carved in the stone above the front door is the original owners name and the date 1854!

I had the day off Thursday so we drove out to the old farm house and asked the 85 year old farmer and he said "Sure. Go ahead. I don't care." Thursday we hunted there for about 5 or 6 hrs. Ted found a Barber dime and a Merc (in the same hole). And I nabbed 3 IHS and a few wheats. Figuring that there had to be more I headed back solo on Saturday . Despite the 50 mph winds and temporary white outs I gave it another 2 1/2 hrs. 1 more IH and 1 more wheat. I haven't given up on it yet. But I think it's been heavily detected in the past.

Sunday morning Ted and I meet up with Don (DiggerDon) for some door knocking. We got permission for a old farm site. The barns, out buildings, and the old trees are the only thing still standing. Nothing but trash there for me. Ted got a 1907 IH. Don had a nice find there. So we moved on.

We moved on till we found this 1860s-1870 farm house.
Got a yes and started swingin

The only silver for me came in the former of a tiny sterling ring.
It came with a nice little bonus! A cobalt blue and white marble!

    Sterling mark.

I got 11-39/40 dug it and thought that I had a worn silver quarter when I seen a shiny edge on a quarter sized object. I picked it up and could tell it was lite for a silver coin. I stared to wipe the dirt off I thought it must be a token. Turns out it's a 1943 French 1 Franc.

    The other side....

Found a tool check tag from W.U.G & E. co.

I did some research and it turns out it's from the Western Utility Gas & Electric Co.
Seems they were in business from 1912 to 1925.

    The goods.

    The other....

Thought this was just a piece of scrap aluminum, turns out it's a (broken) 1950's Cracker Jacks "The Noisy" toy.

Lots of cool stuff came out of the ground! It's deep but there's more there.
    I'll be back
Thanks for lookin'! GL & HH

Nice assortment of finds Tim. Glad you were able to get out and so some swinging. Is that noise thing one of those "clickers" you would press with your thumb and it would go click, click? I also like the French coin. France switched to aluminum during WW2 because the Nazis looted all their silver and gold. Perhaps this was a souvenir from a soldier returning after the war. Looking forward to our next hunt! GL & HH, Dave.

Great hunt Tim. It was good getting out with you again. That was a good yard to detect, very little crap in the ground.
Congrats on your finds. I really hope that "Bob" can get us in across the street.
That yard could be killer. Till then, GL & HH

    Thanks Dave!
You know, I never read up on how it works exactly.
I seen some on ebay. They all claimed 1950's. That's all I really read.

    Thanks Don!!
It was good huntin with you again too. That would be killer!
It would've been nice to get over a silver coin or two. But that's OK. I'm glad you found some. I'll be going back to "Bob's" again! Maybe I'll get over a old silver when I go back. Now that you got all that "new" silver out of the way.
I didn't check the dates on each coin, but all I found were 2 Jefferson nickels from the 50's. Other than that the '43 Franc, Buff, and wheats. Nothin new!!

For example, what is this lid for?

It must be something awfully handy. It says "Good House Keeping" on it 3 times!

Tim, on all those keepers. "Despite the 50 mph winds and temporary white outs I gave it another 2 1/2 hrs", now that's determination.
