stopped at a site on the way home from doing some painting.was a old homestead close to road a new house is built up behind the sheds but you can see the cut out in the bank where the early 1800's home stood.a couple mercs,a 925 ring and a early one piece floral button with a sCOVILL's backmark.never seen 2 small S's in any Scovill backmark before.of all the early buttons i've dug this is a 1st with the small S's

Never seen the small s either. Wonder if it was a wrong dye or something?
Like the larger piece is that a rosette?

could be the dies, hopefully Dan can help.the stamped brass piece is rather large for a rosette face, but then again who knows.no sign of any lead backing and it's not concave on the back like most rosettes i have dug

You're experienced eye spotted the cut where the house once stood. I for one would not have seen anything. :congrats: on some silvers and that button is very interesting. Hopefully Dan will know something about the small s's
