I do believe that your buddy found a Chinese coin. I'm no expert, but I did find these look alikes on the internet.

Thanks Mudder! thumbsup01
Looks like you nailed it.
We were puzzled this morning and I told him we could post it and someone would figure it out. He hasn't joined the forum yet, but this will probably convince him.
Thank You! |:cheering:

Hey Lowjiber, Mudder is correct, that is diffenetlly a Chinese coin. I found one several months ago that looks very simular to this one. I went on Googgle and just typed in coins with square holes, and Chinese coins came right up. I went on a site, which a coin dealer had up in Canada and he verified the date of my coin between 1736-1795. You go looking on some site, and there are these Chinese coins with hundreds of combos of symbols on them, which all have a certain name. Once I located mine, I e-mailed the dealer just to confirm. Here is a pic of my coin, then the one I found on Google. The coin dealer told me that the one I found is only worth a couple of dollars, since they supposely made 6,000,000,000 of them. Oh well, pretty cool find. Tell Jimmy congrats....

Hey Ron!
If you found them in the Haunted House dig, they might date back to the 1920's. You agree?

Mine looked similar to your's and turned out to be from an 18th century dynasty. I forget.... but each character tells when, where the coin was made and how much it is worth.....you can check into it. |:cheering:

We'll look into it...take it to the bank.
He was/is sure excited, largely because that's the first really cool thing he's found.
Many thanks to everyone who chimed in on this one!

The only thing I Know about these coins is why they have a square hole. So the can string them together .

Not to bump this thread, but I stumbled across a website that identifies Chinese coins of this type.
