Sundays Cellar holes great hunt with a 3 copper day and lots of relics

With little sleep and long work days, I finally got time to post my finds. Dave already gave you the story of finding a cabin site that our spiderman senses helped us sniff out. Kudus to Dave on spotting the well in the middle of thick thorn bushes. I feel this is a virgin site as the finds were plentiful. All the targets were old and there was absolutely no trash here :happy:

We did hit another site earlier in the morning were I got a beautiful rosette, dog tag, and a brass ring but that spot was littered with dumped trash and seemed to be lived in up until the mid 1900's so we moved on in search of the other site that we had no way of knowing there would even be a site to hunt. Our gut instinct was telling us there should be something there and our hunch paid off in spades :happydance01:

Dave started off red hot but by the end of the day it seemed that both our finds evened out in the end. I got coppers #34,#35 and #36 on the year with a 1787 Connecticut, 1802 Draped Bust and a worn KGII. Two sweet ornate tombacs and a cuff link button were welcomed finds as was nice keg tap and a couple saddle shield buckles and a complete iron knee buckle. We had a blast and are looking forward to getting back.

what a day! some sweet coins & relics popped out of this place.you should zap that iron knee buckle or soak it in CLR and wire brush it up & seal it.never seen a iron knee buckle like that.sweet designed tombacs and cool to see a drilled shank on one of them.nice early buttons! can't wait to get back! thumbsup01

So I tried the electrolysis on the Iron Knee buckle and cooked it a little too long I believe. I lost one spike and a small section of tongue. Maybe it was to far rusted to restore completely :-\

yup either you voltage was a bit too high or you had it in too long :yes:

the Connecticut is proving to be a bit difficult with the pictures you have of it the front is good but the reverse has some dirt that is covering some of the key points . did you clean it any better or can you get a photo with some good ligh casting across it the give me the shadows i need to see some more details.

Todd , I'm almost convinced its a Miller 43.2-X.4 (urs-7) they list it as very rare in the coinfacts website. the die maker reworked the E in CONNEC and it changed the whole legend to CONNFC thats a good one |:cheering: :perfect10: :clapping: :clapping:

Thank you :blush: , the 1787 coins can be very challenging to figure out and i do like a good challenge now an then . I would recommend some type of light oil or vaseline to keep it from drying out and loosing anymore of its patina though.

URS-7 33 to 64 known is pretty darn rare but one must wonder how many have been excavated. Regardless, If those number's are accurate then I am happy to now own one :bananadance:

Sorry i didn't reply right back Todd (went to work :rolleyes:) i would prefer rennaissance wax first over just about most but if it were mine i would do the vaseline only. carefully wipe the excess off and maybe after it dried out some (days or months later) then apply the wax.
