Big and heavy, but what the heck is it?

Hello all! :waving:

I was out this afternoon at a private site, and dug this oddity. It's heavy like lead, but I'm pretty sure it's an alloy because it 'marks' more like a newer wheel weight. Obviously too soft to be a form or a bearing of any kind... It was about three inches down, in a meadow-like area. Any ideas? :dontknow:

Dan, just wanted to let you know it appears you are correct. |:confused:) I showed the picture to a local history buff, and he also said it looks like half of a coupler. :clapping:
