Hi all. Im live in Lafayette Indiana and I'm new to the MD world. Any advice, help, tips, tricks etc. you may have would be much appreciated.
I have an Ace 250. I bought the bigger coil for it. I think it's. 9xsomething. I also have a Garrett pin pointer. I like to find old stuff, coins, relics etc. BUT then again I'd love to find some jewelry as well. Lol. I just really wanna find old stuff. Only thing I've found so far is junk and up to date coins.

Welcome from Illinois! :waving:
Glad to have you here, JJohnson! I have actually hunted not too far from you across the border in Illinois. I bet there are lots of good places to hunt in Lafayette.
The most challenging task for any detectorist is finding productive sites to hunt. I use the internet a lot to look for old parks in nearby towns. Be sure to ask all of your friends and relatives if you can hunt in their yard, especially if they live on an older home site.
Best of luck and be sure to keep us posted on your progress!

I've tried to find old buildings, houses, schools etc. but just can't seem to find anything. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong I just don't no what.

Welcome aboard from western MA. My best advice to you is to try and dig a lot of targets, even the ones that do not sound great. That is how you learn your machine's limits. I would crank the sensitivity one notch below maximum, so that you can increase your depth a bit. Your own town hall should have maps of the parks, and so will your library. Good luck and remember, research is the key to success.

Hello JJohnson
welcome to the forum :waving: , it always seems difficult when at first start out doing something new but it won't be long until your looking at places with a different perspective and wanting to detect there because of its old coin possibilities. ;) the Garret machine you have is a great machine for beginners and will let you find lots of nice coins and relics but you just have to learn what its tones ( its language) is saying to you . be patient and don't get discouraged and i'm sure it won't be to long we see one of your finds up on the ":beerbuddy:anner.

Welcome to the forum and hobby for SE Wisconsin. You have a good machine to get you started. Set-up a test area and play around with the settings to help you get the most out of it. When your in the feild dig everything for a few hunts and take note of how the detector was responding. remember that targets in the ground will not always give a clean response like during an air test. Be patient and the good finds will come.good luck and happy hunting.

Welcome from western MA. We were all newbies at one time or another. You have been given some great advice here so keep on trying.
When I go out door knocking on thing I always look for is the foundation of the house. If it's all brick then I know its old.
Welcome to the forum from Mississippi. Practice, practice, practice. Hunt, hunt, hunt. Become one with your machine, and the force will be with you. HAve pateints, learn every little squeek and beep. The good stuff will come! Again. welcome.
