Had the pleasure of spending Thursday hunting with Ray, Drew and Dan at a place we were hoping had a cellar hole. It had some great fields but no cellar hole in sight :dontknow: We're pretty confident there was one there, but the railroad took it out (along with our coins and relics:girlcry:) We didn't get a lot there, but got some keepers. My first good coin hit was a half of a large cent which I quickly put in my old pouch. :clapping: It quickly fell through a small hole in the bottom of it, and is now awaiting another detectorist with a better pouch :crying02:Ray saved the day with use of his headphones, since I forgot mine at home :shocked01: Dan and I ended up at a another place after Ray and Drew went home, and I managed some better finds, although I worked for them. I finally gave up digging shotgun shells. Nice day, nice time and great stress relief.

yes all those coins and relics are now in that built up raised area for the Railroad track by the pond :girlcry: bet it was a nice big cellar too. that Railroad came through there in the 1830's or 40's and thats why the site isn't on any maps.

wow the watch winder had a lot more guilt than i thought , what a sweet piece . you always seem to find the nice ones , trade ya my three plain ones for it  the copper look like a British half penny , yes??

the other site we ended up at was hit pretty too .

Yep, a KG II but in rough shape. The watch winder cleaned up real nice, and makes my 12th one. And I already have 3 plain ones, so no trade buddy :shame:

Yeah, must have been a huge hole judging by all the iron in the adjacent fields.
I was trying to imagine all the beasts of burden and bustle of men when they built that section of the line. :shocked03:

I got a nice dome button about an inch across in the last 10 min...and a suspender clip that has a Mar 7 1871 patent date in the first 10 min. The middle few hours were shells and deep iron. :(

It's fascinating how Ray found two rare state coppers this week...making us look bad
That is a sweet winder George, and I was rooting for you to find the cut copper again.
Anyone going...or ever gone to BONE?

Nice hunt and glad you could join some friends. Those shotgun shells can be bothersome can't they? Risk vs. reward, but after the 30 or so you found I can understand not taking any more of the "risks"!

That's a load of metal there George! Did you manage to do your "death march"?!
I love the buckle and the winder looks beautiful. Hope to see you when I get back up this summer. Happy Easter.

Very nice ! Cool winder. That buckle is definative proof that the ancient Romans/Greeks/Phoenicians were here long before Columbus ;)

A couple of nice iron relics too.

those finds definitely beat my crusty two fat indians 1860 , 63 , a large dandy and small cuff button with bumble bee motif.

Never got to the death march, the fields gave out before I did  Usually I'd follow them for a long while, but there weren't that many of them.

Schaefer beer:drool:.........:barf: I usually find most of what I lose, but I must admit, I did not make much of an effort to find a sliver of a copper  A whole one, yes, but a piece of one....no.
