Tag with dates.

Anyone, most likely from CT, have any idea about a tag a friend had found? It was found in the bottom of an uprooted tree somewhere in East Hartford when he was 10 years old. It's a silverish tag just a bit bigger than a penny with three holes. One hole is in the center and two on each side that look like a beveled or countersunk edge. On the bottom it has two dates. Dec 5 82 and Dec 12 82. Just realize that is 1882. I can't find anything online about it. Whatever took place was a week. Dec 5 was a Tuesday.

Okay, my first guess was that it is a souvenir token from a Wild West show but I cant find any backup evidence....aaaand Im spent.

Ok, I got pics. One is zoomed in a bit. It is possible that the center it had said "PAT" for patent. The item looks like it is made of lead and both sides of the holes are beveled. Only one side would be made that way if it was used for screws. It was found sometime 1973 or 1974, so that is why I say 1882. It weighs approx 16.1g or 0.570 Oz for the size. Maybe 3/8" thick.

the holes are counter sunk so it screwed into something and its scuffed.......bottom of a walking stick ?

The holes are drilled from both sides so I don't think it was attached to anything using the holes. It appears to have originally been attached in the center (above the dates). My guess is it was made into a whirly-gig or even a home-made button for a coat or something. What it was made from I don't know though (insert henway joke here). HH, Dave.

Hmm. I was able to stump even the guy who knows it all. :lol:

Someone at work mentioned it could be a seal of some sort. As in wires were attached and it was supposed to keep something sealed for a week. It definitely seems like it's made of lead.
