It was not intentional but it seems like I had a theme hunt this afternoon. I was along side a river where evidently folks used to hunt frequently before civilization moved in and built houses. This area is now a wetland reserve and there are plenty of water fowl and deer around.

As you can see I found fido's long lost dog tag. I also found a large cylindrical piece of lead. I decided it was definately not a shotgun slug, but what it is I do not know. Oh Yeah! That fake cigarett thingy... What excitement that was until I turned over the leaf mold. It was a really nice high tone and it got my heart pumping a little faster for a moment there.

Surprisingly I did not find any pull tabs. Actualy I did not find anything of great value but it was a beautiful fall day, full of sunshine and fall colors. Me and my dog Johnny had a great time visiting with Mother Nature. With winter just around the cornor , I will take a hunt like this any time.

The tag is nice and that is a bunch of headstamps. There is a site for dating those if you are interested.

The tag is pretty nice. The only place I seem dig shotgun shells & brass cartridges is in old parks. Go Figure?

Nice clean dog tag. Looks to me like there was some serious hunting going on there.

This area overlooks some of the open water of the swampy wet land. The river runs through this swamp and the swamp is basicaly a small flood plain. About 35 - 40 yards from the water edge is a rocky bluff that is probably 25 - 30 feet high. In addition to hunting , I believe the bluff was used as a back stop for target practice. There were plenty of evidence , such as a metal bucket full of holes.

I like hitting a spot with a lot of head stamps. That means the area hasn't been detected all that hard.
