Veterans day cellar hunt

No school today for me due to Veterans day so I headed into the woods to detect an old farmstead that I last detecting in May. In the spring I found an 1865 indian and an 1864 two cent piece. Today I basically got skunked for the first hour but then hit a certain hot area near one of the cellar holes. Dug a spoon and a button. Also dug lots of iron which was giving off a lot of false signals. Then I headed into the cellar and picked up what looks to be a late colonial knee buckle. It still moves too :grin:! I then got a mid tone and dug. Right away I noticed glass, nails, and oyster shells in the hole. It looks like a trash pit. I am moving my pinpointer around and suddenly I notice a bottle. My pinpointer is beeping over the bottle so I get super excited and think "Its beeping cause its filled with silver coins!". I got a little too ahead of myself there. Turns out the bottle is empty and a iron object underneath it is causing the signal. Nice bottle though. The front says "This bottle not to be sold" and the bottom says "Karl Hutter, New York" Haven't dug a bottle in a few months. I will probably go back and dig out that that trash pit to see if there is anything else there. Overall I will say I had a pretty decent hunt. I almost never find full, un-cracked bottles James. I think Brian (Trooper) recently used the term "blob top." I guess it looks like an "applied" blob, according to this- http://www.bottlebooks.com/basics.htm I love the spoon too. I'm in "school" too...I started school in the middle 60s and never left :lol: We should hunt together one of these days.

Nice finds . Your bottle is a 1890ish mold blown beer /ale bottle. Usually from local distributors and can be locally common in late 1800's -early 1900's dumps.

Thanks for the well wishes on Veterans Day. Nice old spoon, don't see them to often straight. I also would be digging out that trash pit especially since there were some oyster shells there. What are you studying for at school?

I am majoring in history but would like to go to law school after college and I hope to become an attorney.

Very nice variety of finds. That is a very nice blob Top. I find them occasionally while hunting fossils on old coal mine spoil hills.

nice bottle.your knee buckle is actually a 1860's or so suspender type buckle

Thanks for correcting me on the buckle age Heavymetalnut. That makes more sense because that seems to be the time period of the majority of my finds from this former farmstead.
